This time of year survival in the water - if you get wet - is measured in minutes frown.gif Air temps in the 20s, water temps upper 40s...it's a very dangerous time to put yourself at risk - if fishing alone can be avoided, yah should be fishing with a partner this time of year. It's a tragedy when a fellow surfman goes down for the count frown.gif

About six years ago I was fishing off a jetty at dusk. It was summer and I was trying to get to the tip of the jetty.

I slipped on one of the rocks and hit my head on another. I don't know how long I was laying there, but I came to when a wave hit me in the face. I was lucky that the surf was relatively calm.

I thought I might have some blood on my head so I went up to wash it off on the boardwalk. A guy and his girlfriend were at the base of the jetty and asked me if I was allright. I said I was OK and wondered why they asked.

I went in a bathroom and was surprised to see blood all over my face. The cut on the top of my head wasn't very big, but it bled a lot.

I had Korkers on, but it still shows that you have to be really careful.

It's amazing how you don't taste or see blood after a while, especially when in salt water or sweating. Ever see "Fight Club".

So sad to read of this tragic loss, especially right before Christmas. Please be careful everyone.
