How's your 2016 season so far?

So how is everyone's season going so far now that we are heading towards the dog days of summer? Will you continue to bass fish or will you take advantage of the many other species regularly available from our shores or maybe even some visiting fish and toothy critters.

Terrible season overall. Nothing big and numbers are down overall. Glad I got into saltwater fly fishing because the micros have been active in the estuaries.

It's by far the worst season I have had since moving to LI about 8 years ago.  My days out on the water are less than half of what they have been in years past due to the lack of fish.  This also seems to be the consensus among the others I fish with.

The sad thing is I am not expecting much to improve in the fall.  The mullet run will most likely be non existent and I probably won't see action until mid to late October which will only last for a couple of weeks.

been a great season for me. lots of blue fish, some bass and plenty of fluke. Caught some doormats from the paddle board and some big blues from the beach and rocks. Had some beautiful nights fishing under a full moon with live eels and picked up some new gear as well.

for those of you who are having an off season, I hope that things turn around for you real quick.

I've done really well on bass, a few of good-big size but mostly small. Pretty good on blues. Terrible on fluke though Jesus this has been a bad year for them in my experience.

I'll keep chasing bass. They're still around my neck of the woods in decent numbers, which is actually kind of weird being the time of year.

Not good. The spring run was a dud for me. Messing with fluke and small blues now and hoping the fish gods are gonna make it up to me in the fall.

In March I caught more/bigger bass in the Hudson River than in LISound all season. The abundance of bunker for live lining, and the willingness of big blues has kept it fun.

Much more bluefish, much less bass. Rough season.

Was ready to give up on bass until one hit my fluke rig a few mornings ago. Jigging in 2 ft. of piss warm water after the 100 degree weather.

Bass aren't supposed to hit in bathwater. Guess that one didn't read the memo.

It was very odd. But there were a lot of kingfish and anchovies around.

I would rather base my opinion on a fair comparison of yesteryear and looking at my log.

Eight years ago at this time 350 stripers all by lure and off the beach or rocks....45 keepers

This year 150 stripers nine keepers and one fish to 25lbs.

I am fishing about half of the amount of time compared to eight years ago.

This has been the poorest striper season ever.

I have had a couple of hundred blue fish though.

This year i have caught over a dozen  fluke by accident. I am even catching porgies unintentionally(snagging them)  with mag darters.

And I finally got a weak fish last week in the ocean.

Tough season for so many reasons.
