Its a new design top to bottom, so its doubtful.  Production models are not here yet so I dont think anyone has actually tried though.  Stand by.

i also have a bail that failed the same way.....i very specifically bought the reel for its crazy inches per turn    .....im happy w the old one but will end up going bail less ....i will call daiwa first but I'm clearly out of warranty.....i don't regularly spend 225 on reals so I'm pretty disappointed it failed....i hope this becomes a recall for daiwa that will replace the bail   this is looking too common

hard to consider a new one when the old ones fail

Guess you missed the top to bottom redesign part. I think Daiwa has come a long way in the last few years, and their bg redesign is preforming quite nicely so far for $100. Only had one small service need since owning 5 new Daiwas fished heavily for the last 4 or 5 months, and they fixed it under warranty in less than a week and didn't charge return shipping or anything. Wouldn't count out any Daiwa reel with all the progress they have made in recent years

  1. denny.... i didn't miss the redesign part.  simply stated i don't usually shell out 225 a reel and think bail issues should b sorted at that price point...saying a company has come a long way is.....well my buddy sayschevy has come a long way but my toyota is still running perfect while he's on his third chevy    i have penn battles that are outliving the saltest at half the price.......i also have an old bg that is running strong to b fair  .....spend 225 instead of 100 and i expect more

Does the bail snap easily and cost $70 to replace just like the old one ?

Yep, those composite air bails sure provide Daiwa with a lot of aftermarket revenue.

It's encouraging to hear that they have abandoned that atrocious maingear / handle arrangement that produced so many fractured donuts.

Keep in mind that the new Saltist is the same as the new BG plus a mag-sealed pinion and line roller (edit* plus a beefier bail wire).

Point being, you can try out the BG for half the price and just learn to take care of the bits with a little extra grease under the rotor.

I handled the bg in bass pro last weekend. I was not impressed with the bail or line roller. Felt a little cheap to me. I hope the saltist has more upgrades then just the bearings and a seal under the rotor.

The bail arm is thicker on the new Saltist than it is on the BG, looks beefier. The bail & line roller might be a one-piece design, I'm not sure. I think I remember A Hawk writing that this upgraded area of the reel is mostly a cosmetic upgrade.
