Believe it or not Pop, I got a VSX150 with 300 yards of 14 lb. Crystal Fireline and a ton of backing.  Pairs perfectly for me…..

Lots of $$$ invested in that combo.

I would be scared to fish with it.

I am not good with keeping expensive stuff; it would be scratched and most likely broken in a few weeks in my possession.

ahhhh yes.......as one that takes care of his tackle immensely, i often think about that also.  Although time and longevity has proven to me that this quality of gear beats the test of time.  This has enabled me to sell off the inventory of "affordable" tackle and get me down to three or four quality main setups that are used consistently depending on application.  :th:

What length of leader are you running?

On jettys, bridges and other structure I dont use anything less than 3 feet of heavy mono, usually 4' of 60lb or better.  Both for keeping braid off hard structure and for hand lining the fish when landing.

Open beaches or where distance is a necessity I'll downsize accordingly, 18-24" of 20 to 30lb leader.

put load on that rod

That is not how rods work though, rods are not stationary (like a slingshot or bow) when we use them, they need us at one end to keep applying or in fact increasing the load by accelerating

by definition, longer rod cast longer distance,in this case is not true if you take 7' rod rated 1/2 to 1 oz and you cast 1 oz sinker ,you will never cast with that 12' rod longer cast i do not care if you are superman strenght.

No.

I'll find a video of 18g (3/4oz) plug casting for distance on a field and post it here. Longer rods beat shorter rods. Not necessarily 6-8oz rated rods, but WAY more powerful than a 7' rated 1/2 to 1oz. My own 18g rods are a 12' rated up to 4oz and a 12'6 rated to 4oz

Edit: added 2 videos.
