If you are on a budget check out Tsunami Salt X rods, I have the 10'6, sweet rod and great distance.

I tried a Century Sling Shot but did not fit my casting style.

if you are fishing open beaches for max distance, go to 14# Fireline (original) or Crystal - NOT the new 8x carrier). Much thinner line, stiffer & breaks consistently in the mid 30's#.

Will go farther than 30# Sufix.

Boy......are you spot on with this.  I have both the original and new 14 lb. lines on my distance rods but have the 8 Carrier on my 11' Century SME and blast past 150-160 yards with certain metals/tins consistently.

Very, very good line in that pound test :th::th:

Well I'll tell you what I had been using the past number of years now.

Lami used to make a gsb 1321MH blank which to be clear is not the 136MH chunking rod.

The 1321mh has the same tip as the 11m but thickens into the mid section.  Its substantially thicker walled and very responsive, though still moderate action.  I added a 6" extension to the butt section which not only lengthens the rod but stiffens the butt section substantially which is also where distance rods generate their power.  The distance this thing generates is sick, its turned big jetty sharks with ease and fished some heavy water and when fishing a large jetty, the length an power affords me the ability to steer some big fish through and around obstructions.  If you can find the blank at an affordable price, it's worth buying.

Also if distance is you're only interest, downsize your running line to 20 or 30lb suffix 832, shorten and downsize the class of your leader materiel and use an fg knot to the running braid Instead of a swivel, you'd be shocked the amount of wind resistance 3' of 50 or 60lb monofilament has on a cast.  Though when fishing a jetty, heavier running line and terminal tackle is a necessity.

What length of leader are you running?

My 1327 is the best casting rod I’ve ever owned.

Is your 1327 a rod with graphene, or a pre-graphene 1327 like mine?

Pre, it’s from the original batch that went out to a couple of reps.

Value added Mike, nice work! People don't realize sometimes that a longer rod will cast further, IF operated optimally. Then, at some point, we reach a length that, based on ourselves, is starting to be too much and we lose distance because we aren't operating the rod optimally. Being a pretty big guy and an experienced caster, my preferred rod length is often a little longer than many guys I fish with or meet. I've been thinking of a question in my mind I'd like have some idea of how to best answer them so they could understand what a little extra length from the reel to the rod tip can do for a cast, if you can control the rod. Today's lighter and lighter rod blanks are bring this question up more than we may realize.

  • If we could assume a series of rods are exactly the same (the weight rating, the flex index, the max load), how many feet of distance would each extra foot of rod give if they were optimally cast? I will go out on a limb and say the number is a small increment. Do you know of a calculation that would satisfy this question?

Do you know of a calculation that would satisfy this question?

the test should be mechanical not on the strenght off angler.

samo formula like shooting the arow from bow.

for example:

you put rod in rod holder,

put on line, from 1 oz to 6 oz sinker.

and put load on that rod  in proper lb and relese.

you have to mesure the speed and kinetick energy, same like arow or bulet..

that will give you the best load for that rod, that is the sweet spot..

you can have 12' rod rated 6 to 8 oz.

by definition, longer rod cast longer distance,in this case is not true if you take 7' rod rated 1/2 to 1 oz and you cast 1 oz sinker ,you will never cast with that 12' rod longer cast i do not care if you are superman strenght..

Believe it or not Pop, I got a VSX150 with 300 yards of 14 lb. Crystal Fireline and a ton of backing.  Pairs perfectly for me…..
