Contractor here.

 

For glass, use unsanded, unless you prefer to scratch your tiles. 

 

For most materials, a rule of thumb is

if < 1/8" use unsanded.

and the converse, of course.

 

Floors almost always get sanded grout.

PS.

 

If you want a less-messy alternative to traditional grout, and assuming that you don't have mosaic, you might consider buying grout in a tube that fits in a caulking gun.

Permacolor grout by Laticrete is all I use nowadays. From 1/16" - 1/4" grout lines this stuff is the best...stain resistant too. Rated for underwater applications as well which makes it a great choice for pools or shower floors.
