PatchyFog
Leon Chsndler was the nicest fishing personality I ever met with no annoying penchant for off color jokes or groping females getting casting lessons What an old-school gentleman. I don't think he could have offended anybody if he tried.

PatchyFog
This kind of topic gets started, it sticks in my mind. Combination of all-around ability, wonderful human being, and sense of humor, it's Poul Jorgensen to me. I'll always miss him. When he died was when I stopped hanging around in Roscoe. It was like the end of an era. What a guy. RIP Poul
The Fisherman
This is great! There are a few so far that I missed. As long as they are famous and well-known in our sporting community, it's all fair game. Writers, too. Please keep them coming. PatchyFog
Dr. Dave Rosgen. His concepts in stream restoration have dominated the field over the last 20 years. He's a heck of a scientist. He's also a great conservationist, fly-fisherman, bus driver (tranny is always shot though), rancher, hunter, and all-around good-guy cowboy with a belt buckle the size of a pie plate. And whose favorite song is King of The Road which he plays over and over on his jumbo Gibson. DON'T BE DOIN' THAT ****! is his motto. I once saw him drink a drink with a parasol in it. Maybe he's a closet fern-bar type. http://www.notablebiographies.com/newsmakers2/2005-Pu-Z/Rosgen-Dave.html http://www.wildlandhydrology.com/ I will send this to his wife Kay, who will get a kick out of it. capt_gordon
What an old-school gentleman. I don't think he could have offended anybody if he tried. You really could not be more correct on that. Capt Gordon
PatchyFog
I'll mention a few more scientists, because they have benefited all of us so much. Dr. Luna Leopold, son of Aldo, perhaps the most important fluvial geomorphologist of all. Some family it was. Luna's not the only notable descendant of Aldo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_Leopold A View of the River is readable for anybody.

BrianBM
Dame Juliana Berners, The Boke of St. Albans. Mostly on falconry but she apparently fished too, and predates Izzac Walton by 150 years. Didn't use fluorocarbon but I do anyway.
