glennsav
My wife and I were fishing the other day in perfect surf conditions. Incoming tide with small to medium surf. Great except for the leafy seaweed in large quantities. We moved around and still had seaweed issues. Enough seaweed to stock an Asian salad buffet. What do some of you do ( other than stop fishing ) when you encounter this situation. Thanks! Edited July 19, 2015 by glennsav

linesiderdemdnj
I dealt with some grassy conditions on ocracoke island a week ago. I set the rods in their holders and upped the weight. Breakers will uproot sinkers much easier when there's chunks of seaweed or grass in the lines. If they start moving up or down the beach, I let them wander until my line is at a 45 degree angle from me and change the bait, recast up current and do it all over again. carangua
Use surface lures or live bait.

That's about all you can do ;Or sit and wait for a wind and tide change... Lou
glennsav
One day we encountered a stringy very strong " seaweed" that wrapped around the hooks, sinkers, braid, and rod guides to the point where it was really hard to unravel it. It actually resembled string but wasn't. We stopped fishing that day since it was wrapping around the braid to the point where it was difficult to reel the braid in. Catskill John
Usually the weeds are close to shore, usually. I have extensions for my sand spikes that are put to use when it gets "weedy". Long enough that I have to reach high on tippy toes to adjust slack. Placing as close to waters edge as possible. Long casts with long rods and spike extensions keep me out of the weeds..............................SOMETIMES! maybe 50% of the time Sometimes ya just got to take a nap. Operater
I'll usually move a couple times before settling in to the fact it's not gonna be a very relaxing time. I can more times than not find a spot with very little or no weed. Sometimes there is no escaping it. If I lived 10 minutes away I'd just go home & try later but I don't so I deal with it. lockbox
I have fished the Mung at thr race at cape cod and after a while I figured it out when the heavy mung is in its so thick you cant fish but there are little stream like conditions that occur almost like channels I use 2 ounce heads with 6 inch shads and slay the fish. I have done very well doing this. of course there is skill involved . ha ha
