I think this is a great resource for people and I think you did a great job. The only thing I would add is a mid-price point section because I feel like that is what most people will end up going for. Budget, mid-price, baller. Just a suggestion.

Very very nice entry level reel, Okuma Stratus. If someone is just starting to fish and want a combo that is as cheap as it gets, an ok a stratus is the reel I would recommend. I beat the heck out of one last year. It ran better than some of my $150 and up reels.

Some other products (may or may not be site sponsors) that are reasonably priced and I've found to be good quality.

Plug Bags: Surfcaster store brand.

Wading Shoes for Stocking Foot Waders: Cabela brand (usually can get them on sale).

Waders: Cabelas

Braided Line: Fireline.

Headlamps: Eveready (be warned - they are splashproof, not waterproof).

Mono Leader: Berkeley Big Game or Ande

Flouroleader: Seaguar or P-Line

Also, if you bring your cell phone, make sure it's in a waterproof case or pouch.

unbeleivable damn near perfect, and i'm sure everyone could add something so here's my two cents. after breaking several cheapo reels i found a cheapo reel that works for me and most would agree damn near industructable the 704 or Z. (used $40 and even a brand new one only $200)

Great information for more than beginners.

I'm 3- 5 yrs back into the sport after retiring at 62.

This is very helpful information for the developing surfcaster and its all in one place!

The surfcasting learning curve is steep and expensive if someone uses the trial and error method.

This site helps people move along the curve quicker at hopefully less costs by minimizing stupid mistakes.

I guess Pinned means it stays on top.

Is there a way to save threads so people can pull them up when they want to.

Thxs!
