troutbum420
Next fall I plan on going to school in Syracuse and I want a heaveir fly rod to take on those king and coho salmon of Lake Ontario and it's feeders. But in the summer I'll be going back to mass and was hoping I could use the same rod to fish for striper on the Chattam flats. So I was wondering what would be a good weight fly rod to meet both of these needs. B/c I know my handy dandy 6 wt would prolly snap like a twig in either of these situations Brands and action would be great!
Crs2006
I would say a fast action 8 wt in the 9 foot plus range. A buddy of mine uses a TFO BVK for salmon and swears by it. My primary 8 is a Helios 2 which I use for big streamer trout, warmwater species, and the surf (except tarpon). The Orvis Clearwater and TFO BVK is a good stick if you want something nice that wont cost a lot.
