Jigs for Tog/Blackfish

I am just getting into blackfishing/toggin and keep reading about using jigs for them while on the boat.  I see many of the "blackfish jigs" range up to 4 oz...seems like 3 and 4 oz would be to large but wanted to hear if anyone had any input regarding this.  Also do you find the jigs as effective using from shore?  Thanks for the help....planning on going out 3 times before January and would like to give it a start.

^^^This and....

Jigs are just another way. Pick the weight based on conditions just like any bucktail. From a boat, you're trying to get down quick and hold bottom. Haven't gotten a chance to use them yet but will this year.

Jigs are used in shallower waters without heavy current. They're popular in bays and the Sound because of that. Out front here in Jersey boats typically tog 45-85' of water where you are better off with 6 8 10 oz sinkers.

If you take a 3 jig onto a party boat and a moon tides running everyone's dropping 10's you're not going to have many happy fishermen next to you.
