open the digging of quahogs to two days this year. As we post a discussion around opening the beds to also include Wednesday may be a reality. The Natural Resource department feels that only half of what they have been stocking over the past several years have.removed and it may be appropriate to add another day for Sandwich Residents to take quahogs. Stay tuned for further information as the discussion progresses between the town fathers around this subject matter :D

Sandwich will officially open the clam beds on the 23 if the test come back ok from the state. They also have received permission to open on another day during the week [On a Wednesday ] They have not as of yet decided when that will happen.

Chuck for now Sandwich only allows quahog scratching om Sundays and that is what you most likely saw. You can also take Piss clams if you can find them buried under all of the sand . The town is attempting to start other shell fish beds inside of the Boardwalk, to the left of the board walk but so far the crabs, seem to have prevented it from getting off the ground.

This whole area is well known for green crabs for toutog and all one needs to do is call up marine Fishery and they will issue you a permit for free :D.

This year will be the first time they plan to open the beds for more then one day as what previously has been stocked has not even begun to be removed by those with permits. ;)

The planted Oyster stocks are growing where they have them secured in Bags at this time, but it will awhile before we actually have a sustainable yield from this effort, per the Natural Resource department. :D
