Little
From a Democrat. Salon. Enjoy:The assignment of heroism, exactly like the literary construct, might have more to do with the assignment of villainy than the actual honoring of “heroes.” Every hero needs a villain. If the only heroes are armed men fighting the country’s wars on drugs and wars in the Middle East, America’s only villains are criminals and terrorists. If servants of the poor, sick and oppressed are the heroes, then the villains are those who oppress, profit from inequality and poverty, and neglect the sick. If that is the real battle of heroism versus villainy, everyone is implicated, and everyone has a far greater role than repeating slogans, tying ribbons and placing stickers on bumpers. “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose.” Ayn Rand

inthered
Little, you are a "hero fighting villains"—with: a thread title; a comment only to the extent of, “From a Democrat. Salon. Enjoy”; and, a C&P which you must not have read, aside from what you found purposeful enough to emphasized at the top. Anyone who doesn’t march “jackbooted in lockstep” to Little’s piping will undoubtedly find reading what he pasted more worthwhile than watching his spew trickle down. At my age, just about everything pisses me off!

Are you that crazy guy that with welts all over his face and long stringy hair that wears the orange vest and walks all around my town with his his eyes wide open and his hands twitching? All day long? I call you "crazy walking guy". Sorry about the dog, she's a good soul. She barks at folks from time to time, but those are "cmon lets play, go get a stick" barks. Something about you that really flips her out. Oh well. “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. lichum
David Masciotra: The rhetorical sloppiness and intellectual shallowness of affixing such a reverent label to everyone in the military or law enforcement betrays a frightening cultural streak of nationalism, chauvinism, authoritarianism and totalitarianism, but it also makes honest and serious conversations necessary for the maintenance and enhancement of a fragile democracy nearly impossible. It has become impossible to go a week without reading a story about police brutality, abuse of power and misuse of authority. Michael Brown’s murder represents the tip of a body pile. "Michael Brown's Murder" exemplifies the very "rhetorical sloppiness" Masciotra decries. "Who is John Galt?" Who? You?
gadwall8
God Bless them one and all But I’m a US Marine. With an M16A4 and an ACOG. I have a good zero. I’m surrounded by my best friends. And I just learned how to say, “Your mom ****s dogs” in Arabic. http://www. breachbangclear. com/operation-phantom-fury-ten-years-ago-in-fallujah/ "I came into this world naked, screaming at the top of my lungs, and covered in someone else's blood. TatonkaJames
Maybe it's about marching lockstep for 99% of the men who never put on a uniform or step in harms way yet profit from fabricated wars is the underlying reason many take umbrage at this article. Each individual life is precious, from those who wear a uniform to those who simply work 9-5. We bandy the word hero way too much today…. fishnmagician
Nice C&P from Little, he KNOWS it's not the PC thing to say, I'd like to hear Little actually comment on the article and state whether or not he agrees with it. I'd also like to hear from all the gun nuts who claim we need our guns to fight these men should they decide it's time to over throw our Government. RiverRaider
"I'd also like to hear from all the gun nuts who claim we need our guns to fight these men should they decide it's time to over throw our Government." Be tough to topple a government without weapons wouldn't it? A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices. – William James
