Lame Duck Session

The Lame Duck session starts next week.

With the major upheaval that just occurred, what should we expect the ousted Democrats to do as a last hurrah?

They have got to have some stunt to pull to leave the Repubs in a lurch right off the bat. Some way to throw a bit of sand in the gears to make life a bit more difficult for the next folks.

This is a favorite time to enact tax increases because it is as long until the next election as the calendar allows.

Or, will the Democrats play nice, and continue to do nothing like the rest of the last 2 years?

Harry Reid will stand in his bully pulpit on the Senate floor, and launch his daily anti Koch Bros tirade, and Mussobamalini will strut around the oval office waving his limp executive pen.

Dems just got the stuffing kicked out of them. Theyre going to try to make nice with moderate America. With the Repubs in control of both chambers of Congress, who is going to pass tax INCREASES? Ted Cruz and his coalition?

It may be a cynical position but the Repubs should hold off on any economic stimulus legislation lest Obama take credit and help Hillary. First order of business is step by step dismantling of Obamacare, no flights from W Africa and intelligent immigration reform on O's desk so he can veto it.

Reid can talk about anything he wants because nobody is listening. If Dems are smart they will elect a new minority leader to freshen up their image. Harry and Pelosi are stale bread.

The same could be said for the majority side.

Mitch is already giving away the farm, and Jonny boy is going to cry if you look at him cross eyed.

Very little the GOP can do without 60 votes in the Senate.

Even in the unusual case where they can get some Dem support to get past the filibuster, it's unlikely they could get past a veto.

Gridlock will continue, maybe not a bad thing.

More interesting to me will be the dynamic that develops between House and Senate Republicans.

They are far different animals and did a superb job putting up a united front against the Dems , particularly post shutdown.

But now the rubber meets the road.......going to be fun.

True they have both been there too long but its not even January. He doing exactly the right thing by sounding reasonable. The electorate is dog tired of infighting and he knows it. I think people see him as the lesser of two evils. MM even said this wasn't a vote for him and Repubs but against Obama and anyone standing near him. A sledgehammer approach is not the way to go. Instead use time and a chisel

Exactly, selectively funding reworked bills instead of the outright blocking that Obama is counting on.

Power of the purse works.

Think of the toys you'd have if the wife didn't exercise her power in that area.

Power of the purse works if you apply it judiciously and intelligently.

Your wifely allusion is quite apt, not hard to imagine what happens when you blanket refuse to fill up the purse.

You get nothing but an earful.

Hey, lets attack a functioning country, alienate an entire region and religion, accomplish nothing except a photo op and body count, then leave it for some poor snook to clean up. That'll f88k em up good. Canada's my choice. Lame azz hosers. :D:
