Penn neoprene reel covers

1 post in this topic

Just received two, one for my SQL15 and one for my SQL40.

Question: apparently there is no way to put the cover on the reel when it's mounted on a rod that is rigged. I NEVER leave hooks on my rods, but do like to keep a snap swivel tied on so I can get rigged and baited as quickly when I get to the beach.

Am I missing something? I realize the I could cut a slot in the cover to permit the running line to pass through. I have done this with inexpensive BPS neoprene covers for my fresh water reels, but these were a little more expensive and I don't want to botch them up.

What do you do? Would a clean cut slit in the front of the cover fray?

I do not store my reels in their covers when they are damp from use, especially in the salt. But I would like to keep the sand off of them while I'm walking on the beach. Damn flip flops!
