Looking for a portable underwater light to use for squidding off a pier at night and ocassionally offshore. I know the offshore guys like hydroglow's but they're expensive....although they do make a 1 ft long light for $80 that isn't a too bad a price. Any other recomendations out there?

You might want to go to a Army /Navy Surplus store and ask for a battle lantern, This some thing we would use to bring fish [squid, mackerel]around the ship when were on station at what ever sea it might have been. Then again the old stand by Colman on a boat hook should also work fine[just have a shield on it where it is reflected back towards the water you are fishing. You can get them with batteries, propane, if you do not want to use liquid fuel

Use a sealed beam that was used for cars. attach two wires to a battery pack with alligator lips. It will  float on the water. If you want it to submerge add weight. The wires that you attach to the bulb can be sealed with silicone ........
