Penn SSV8500 Failure

3 posts in this topic

Has Penn been able to figure out why Alan Hawk's SSV8500 failed the way it did?

If so, has Penn been able to make the correction to prevent those possible failures?

I am just curious, as I own an SSV and I may consider getting another one in the future, possibly an 8500 myself.

Thanks.

Surfcat - never got to see Alan's reel. Asked him to send it back and he didn't want to part with it.

Tried to duplicate the rotor/pinion nut issue he had in both the lab and field, couldn't do it no matter how much pressure we put on the reels.

We have heard about 1 other instance of this happening, but reel was repaired before we could get our hands on it.

I was thinking that it might just have been an isolated incident. It is good to know that you guys took the time to duplicate the failure.

It is even nicer knowing that the other reels failed to fail.:)

I have had nothing but good experiances with my SSV's so far.

Thank you!
