Brats, Krout, Potatoes & Smoke?

Rate this topic

I know a bazaar title. I just bought fresh uncooked brats from whole foods. It's the first time I've ever bought them uncooked. I hope it's not a mistake. I told the butcher I was intended to cook it with apples, krout, baby potatoes in stout in a crock-pot. The butcher said I need to cook the brats first. He said it would give them more flavor. I asked about smoking them & he said that would be outstanding.

What do you guys think? Smoke the brats & baby potatoes in the egg first then in the crock-pot w/ the krout, apples and stout? Does that sound like a good idea?

I was also going to add seeds. Any other suggestion?

Thanks!

JD

Ive done exactly that.  Go easy on the smoke, it rocks

But cooking the brats right in the stew sounds good too, I wouldnt pass that up wither.

Q and grilling and all that aside, my favorite thing to with the egg is simply to use it as an oven.  No wood chunks or chips, just good charcoal.  Wood oven, tastes rustic, not smoked.  Gonna do a couple chickens like that today.
