Fishing eels out front

Rate this topic

Have been skunked out back with eels last few outings and have a few alive still. Want to go out front off some rocks with eels. Do I use weight or let it swim freely? Dead stick and plug away with another rod?

Most guys I talk to fish them with no weight or an egg sinker. Cast out and slow retrieve. I'm new to the sport and have tried the egg sinker above the barrel/leader and a short shank octopus hook. I didn't catch but others did! Good luck!

in fast current I use a drail. otherwise you just cast them like a swimmer at night and reel them in slowly. when they die take them home and rig them.( there are plenty of videos on how to do it, and after a few tries you'll have no problem basically making you own lures! lol) you can catch another dozen or so bass on them. i find that once an eel catches a bass it seems to be more attractive to other bass. ive caught bass on eels that were almost white and pretty crushed. good luck
