Walking the RM spook

Rate this topic

2 posts in this topic

I recently bought a couple of RM spooks, mainly because I'd read so many posts about what awesome walkers they are. I can't walk these things for beans, and figure it's either equipment or something about my technique. I'm using a 5-1/2 ft Uglistick med and Shimano spinner loaded with 20# Powerpro, 3' of 20# fluorocarbon leader and an 80# Breakaway clip. I have no trouble walking my Heddon Superspooks with this rig, but the RM weighs more than 2x as much as the super spook. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

With too light a rod your yanks will be absorbed more by the rod flexing and not transferred to the heavy spook. Try jerking it with the rod low and to the side. Immediately after jerking it, bounce the rod tip forward to give it slack in order to dart to the side. If it doesn't work, I'd suspect that your rod is a little too limp.
