Thanks Eddie. Those were taken on an open beach. Good to get lucky sometimes. I much prefer, enjoy, to throw Dannies from a boat into structure.

I've been looking at your avatar for so long that I sort of expected you to look like Frank Zappa! Lol

These are my 2 experimental Dannys. Both are the same weight, center slot and a few grams of belly weight. The only difference is the tail taper, it's such a classic I don't want to reinvent it, yet :)

Luck is catching one good fish, one time. Multiple good fish during the same trip, thats some skill too ;)

This is a challenge. I've been getting about an hour swim for the last 3 days Biggest challenge is getting one to stick or dive on the faster water or retrieves. On top I've got it narrowed down to a couple lips, while trying to include Danny lips. Ive been cocentrating on the top water part but still havent found one that is going to hold . The 6" is doing better on the Danny style lips than the 4 3/4". My best so far are on lefty and pikie lips. Maybe my weighting and body shapes aren't suited for the Danny lips. I'm going to turn some more bodies this week with the hips further back and see what I can come up with. All the ones im working on so far are center weighted and wide in center time to change it up.

Also another consistent thing on mine are they are all center slotted.

Need to try others.

So many variables but it's starting to sink in.

I just had this discussion with a fishing buddy about a diving Pikie i made him. I managed to make it and it did catch fish but i feel like i forced a square peg into a round hole. I believe Dannys like Pikies really shine as a top water plug. When i want a subsurface plug prefer to fish something else. For example a plug with a sloped head and a lefty lip will certainly dive without much fuss why struggle to force a Danny subsurface?

I hear you. I'm not really wanting to force a sub swim but rather just not roll out when you cross into some current. It wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have a couple of the well known builders dannys that I have been swimming so I know it's possible. There are things you can't UNSEE.

It gives you a new appreciation for those builders plugs for sure. There is a lot of good suggestions in this thread already. Can only imagine there will be more to come. I'll get more time this weekend to try some of it and report back. I wish I could have. Started the pikie thread with you last year but I didn't get a lathe until the first of the year. I got in late but I came up with 3 good designs and hope to do the same with these.

We got all winter.

Not all surface swimmers, danny's, donny's, need to be on top of the water to be effective. As a matter of fact I believe a little under the surface is a more effective plug a lot of the time. I am not talking diving plugs, sloped headed plugs, I am talking surface swimmers, danny's, with the ability to be fished just a little under the surface along with being able to be fished on top of the surface too. Versatility.

Ok with all this Danny talk going on now I want to play too, never held a Danny in my hand or seen one swim for that matter, plus I am still working out the kinks on the pikie go round from last season, I read the info and printed a pic of one of Stripercrazy's Danny blanks and just went for it. I finally got it turned and drilled to find that I put the weight too far back and not centered like I was suppose to be, I figured what the heck, I put some hooks on it and took it to the trout pond with me today, made a few cast and the crazy thing performed pretty good, good enough for me to try to repeat the same process, I used a lefty's lip 5.5 inches and right around 1.8 oz. It worked great in the pond now to test in were I fish in the river. Thanks Bud for all your help.
