Zonker clouser

Started playing around with a zonker clouser idea. Uses a 2/0 mustad. Tie with zonker right behind the eye and very sparse bucktail on the undeside to give the zonker some stability.

JD, Superb looking fly! I like tying with rabbit & of course can't go wrong with Clousers. I tend to add the strip as tails, for both a longer profile & the extra motion but really like your variation!

Thanks for sharing it! :th:

These were tied with LM bass in mind for the first one & Redfish for the second. 2/0 hooks on these as well.

I bet with a little more flaring near the eye and in pink/white yours would make a great squid pattern

JD, had not thought of that, but you're probably right! Good eye! :th:

It's pretty easy to use you can use it like any other material IE like the flies shown you just cut a piece the size you want and tie it in place like you would bucktail . it's all the same instead of using a clump of material your using a strip of material.

Fly Tyer mag did an article on extended-tail Clousers awhile back. Needs small tubing, mono, and a punch to extend. Whole tube slides out of the way easily on the bite. Relatively anti-fouling, and really does resemble and act like a sandeel.

I'll post the article if I can find it and anyone's interested.

Bluefish might likely trash the tubing tho.

Bunny Strips are such a fun material to play with. If only fouling weren't a problem :( . Of course there are remedies, some more effective than others.

Nice flies guys :th: .

I like to mess around with Zonkers. Never really fished them. The kids said they did good. They asked for more of them. 1785932
