MakoMike
Isn't that how a boga works? If she swam away still probable to die? Yes that's how a boga is supposed to work. They are the worst invention ever for those who want to release big fish. Hanging the fish like that damages internal organs so even if the fish swims away, its likely to die. Some studies on fish of similar shape (baramundi) as striped bass have estimated the mortality of big fish that have been hung like that at close to 80%. ====Mako Mike====Makomania SportfishingPt. Jonesy
doesn't look like 50. tough to tell in that pic. i doubt it was 50 inches let alone well over 53.
big popper
So out of 14 guys, 13 would toss back a 50. I find that hard to believe. specially from the surf. yea i might have to keep that one...
BigBillJettyJockey
So out of 14 guys, 13 would toss back a 50. I find that hard to believe. specially from the surf. Keep it for what purpose? Not so tasty to eat. A picture would certainly be proof enough that it was caught.,Big game hunter philosophy of game management? Take it home to live in the salt-water swimming pool in the back yard? I know that we all have our beliefs, but to kill something simply because it is amazing seems a little bizarre. Yardguy71
So out of 14 guys, 13 would toss back a 50. I find that hard to believe. specially from the surf. I would because I'm too cheap to be paying for a mount and I'd much rather eat a smaller fish and I'm not the pose a hanger from the tackle shop guy . Not saying I wouldn't take couple pics and a measurement but it's going back .
big popper
(for me ) it's a once in a lifetime catch bill... that's my thinking. I've tossed back 99% of everything I've caught since i started saltwater fishing in the late 70's i don't feel bad when i keep something. opinions vary on the topic i understand that and i'm Ok with that,

BigBillJettyJockey
My guilt trip began after I caught and kept these two a few years back. I had released several smaller fish but kept these as my limit. Since then I've only kept a few fish, usually just at keeper size. I was greedy: the "hunter/gatherer reflex" had set in. I understand how someone might want to keep a cow, but try not to let the heat of the moment rush you into a hasty decision . (PS there was a LOT of fish in my freezer for a while.) . nalu22
Very nice boat fish; no way that fish is "well over the 53" mark" though. And, the world record fish was 54" not 53". "Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem."
bassballer
I've tossed back fish that went just under 50. A 46 to be exact. If I stick a 50 it's coming home, I'm taking a 100 pics, then having a cookout with it. I remember my first beer......
