Finally Finished this stupid thing.. started it in November... been tinkering around with it on and off since...  spent two long nights just trying to get the paint scheme to come out the way I wanted, and finally wrapped it up last night. Just gotta tie up a nice looking tail  and belly hook and she’s in business...based it off some pictures I took of bunker I caught in the area. (not that they differ much fish to fish) Hand carved the whole thing, not sure I’ll be doing that again...  man I really hope she swims right...

Glider. Was hopping to test it out this weekend but I didn’t get a chance... it’s pretty heavily belly weighted (it’s a lot of cedar, and I want it to sink) but I also added some weight further back to add some stability and distance to the flight.. I know I sacrificed some action to do so.. the question is, how Much action did I loose... I’m dieing to find out, since this was a first for me,  and now I really want to make a herring... so I’m really hoping my “gut” was right on weight and placement... but we’ll see... I’ll post a vid if it’s any good... otherwise... it’ll just be a trolling plug... or A cool Paper weight...

7-1/4”  @ 4.5oz.  (Plug only)

10” @  4.9oz w/hardware)

so it’s big... one of those “all or nothing” kindv baits... unfortunately I’ll be needing to upgrade my stick to actually throw this monstrosity... (yay! An actual reason to buy a new rod!)

These look awesome. Jig Skins looks like a nice alternative to a rattle can massacre.  Will check them out. Thanks.

They seem to be pretty easy to work with.  Wasn’t sure how epoxy would play with the skins so I sprayed some matte clear over top before the etex

Had a fair amount of success with a flaptail Danny I made last season so I made a few more, 6 inches long, 2.5 oz.  And a few more small needles, 5 inches, 1.1 oz.

I like the way that the stripe in the grain becomes the lateral line.

I've been turning some maple lately, making darter shaped firewood, but it sure turns and sands nice.

Anyone know why maple shows that line in the long grain?

It's a mystery Ed. Some say it's genetics in the tree, some say it's from the weight of the tree ( called ' compression' grain by some ) I don't buy theory that because I've seen plenty of figured maple throughout an entire tree, not just at the trunk. Some even say it's caused by a fungus ! Basically it's a mystery what causes it ! Love working with it, but it's always a challenge !
