stiffening a blank

HI, Guys

I'm about to build a 9' surf rod from a salmon/steelhead blank. The butt section is a little too flexible. Has anyone ever attempted to fill a blank with rod finish/epoxy to stiffen the action? I'm thinking on filling it from 12" past the foregrip back to the butt end. It will add a little weight, but it may help balance it.

My concern would be that you're going to put an

inordinate strain at the point that the flexible

rod meets the epoxy-filled section. Maybe you could fill it with flex-coat. That might have enough give to stiffen it without causing it to

break.
