Cork Reel Seat Clearance

Al-

I picked up some cleaned up vintage "German silver" skeleton fly reel seats and some cork inserts. The resultant seat does not have room to fit the reel feet under the rings. I can remove some cork with a Dremel, but was wondering if this a common situation, and if the Dremel is the best tool for removing the cork. Thanks.

I would not use a dremel to romove any cork from the insert. It will probably cut too quickly. Use a very file file or rasp to slowly remove material. Leave it a little oversize and then sand smooth with fine sandpaper.

You may also want to consider tapering the ends of the reel foot with the dremel to get them to fit the rings.
