Guides for a Spinning rod

Can anyone recommend what type of guides to put on a 7' Lamiglas spinning rod that I will be building in the near future? Im not looking to spend a fortune but I dont think I want the cheapest. There are too many different brands and types out there. Each one seems to be "better" than the others. I dont need fancy, just pratical. thanks in advance

Tim,

Matty is correct in using Fuji hardaloy guides. Great guides for the money.

Please give me some more details on the spinning rod you intend to build and I can then recommend the proper guides and size:

- Lure and line weight range

- graphite or glass blank

- spinning reel model you intend to use

- fishing application and general location

Thanks,

Al

Listen to Al. Guide placement and size are critical to rod performance. I sometimes wonder if the designers of commercial rods have ever gone fishing.

I realized afterward that I didnt leave any specs on the blank. It is a 7' graphite blank. It will handle 1/4 to 3/4 oz lures. Im going to put a Penn 4400 on it. It will be used to cast light lures to small stripers and be used to catch mackeral. I guess if I could get some advice on a reel seat that would be good too. And I was thinking on getting preformed cork grips but someone told me to get cork rings. Which way should I go? Thanks for all the help

Tim,

That is a favorite blank of mine for bucktailing fluke is shallow water. Here is the skinny on how to set it up:

- Use the Fuji single foot hardaloy guides

model BYLG in the following sizes: 30,

25, 20, 16, 12, 18, 8 and a PST SIC tip.

- Fuji seat DPSD #20

- For the handle you can use pre formed cork

grips or rings and shape them yourself.

Cabelas has excellent pre formed grips.

get a copy of their Tackle Craft catalog.

As far as guide placement, put the #30 stripper guide approximately 28 inches from the face of the reel seat.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Al
