Flyrod guides

I'm having a 10 wt 9' med action rod built for me and the question of guides came up ( not the striping guides). Loomis uses a titanium oxide plated guide on it's GLX and they will use a nickle titanium alloy on it's new line of rods. Some of their older 12 weights use stainless. Sage uses a "hardened" chrome guide. The rod builder gave me the choice but stated that the material is not all that important. And added that their size is more important. I'm drawn to the new sexy Ti stuff but I like the time proven chrome also. In your opinion does one choice stand head and shoulders above the rest?

The Ti guides are only titanium nitride plated over stainless steel and the quality of the plating is really not that good.

My preference are the Fuji SIC single foot fly guides or the Alconites.

You builder is correct in that the size of the running guides are very important, especially on a 10 weight rod. I would go with the largest size guides that are practical. You should also use an oversize tip. Both will allow you better shooting capability.
