WD-40 and guides

Hi Al:

Seasons greetings... Just a quick question. Does giving hardaloy or sic guides a shot of WD-40 do any harm? Those rings are superglued in place and I am wondering if this could lead to guide failure.(IE. Rings popping out.)

What have you observed here???

Professa it has been my experience that while WD 40 will not harm the guides it does cause problems with some finish even to the point of where if you need to replace a guide it has caused fish eyes in the finish of the replacement guide.

I have also seen it cause problems on the factory finishes on the blank

Joe,

WD40 is a degreaser, not a lubricant. I would wash the rod down with a soft brush and dishwashing setergent, like Joy. Use a soft toothbrush to scrub the guides. Towel dry the rod and let it airdry overnight. The next day spray some Pledge furniture polish on a soft rag and wipe down the guides and blank.

I should have known this, but I wanted to here it from you guys. I guess wd-40 will eventually find itsway uinder the finish and cause problems.
