My brother gave me a small Traeger smoker.

Broke it in with a whole chicken with apple smoke.

Less smoke than I would expect, but it was set it n forget it easy.

I still prefer charcoal, but I could be swayed.

I am sure that I am headed for a pellet smoker some day. The set it and forget it is most appealing to me.

Like Y said, they are light on the smoke.

A chicken was only 1:45 cook time, but I would go with hickory next time.

The Traeger has a smoke setting, which creates a lot of smoke. Maybe next time I'll run that cycle for a short time when I start the cook. Need to do more research :read:

I don't like smoked chicken in general. Rubber skin. I will smoke wings then grill them to crisp. It's involved. I dry them uncovered in the fridge for a day to get the skin the crisp after grilling.

Soak then in some salt water with baking soda first, then dry them in the fridge.

Ok, you experienced shooters.

What is the downside of steel cased .223?  fitty cents a round is sounding more appealing, why should I or shoudn't I do this?

Steel runs more dirty and you cant reload it. Steel cases can be less accurate as well but not always. Go ahead and get it.

Reloading not an issue for me.  How dirty we talking?  Clean it after every range session dirty?
