cutting a rod for tog..?

Greetings,

I plan on trying tog fishing soon.

I have a crappy Okuma rod that is 7 foot and rated at 1-4 ozs.

I really don't use this rod for any fishing.

Question- would it be prudent to cut 6 inches off to make it handle heavier weight?

I hung 8 oz. off the second guide and like the way it feels and looks.

Good idea icon14.gif ---or am I wacked cwm13.gif ?

The only problem that I see with your plan is that you will end up with a rod that is 6'6" when you are done. I like a little bit longer rod for party boat fishing 7' to 8'. I am no expert bit I still think that 6'6" is touch on the short side. Private boat might be a different story.

You might be whacked, but if you don't use the thing you have nothing to lose by hacking it. If you don't like it, steak yer tomato plants with it and go buy another one then.
