marlinman
Hi Al, I had a rod rewrapped back in December by a local tackle shop, and the epoxy on some of the wraps is still "soft" for lack of a better word. Some have set up properly, but others I can still get a fingernail to dig in. Is there anything I can do other than having it redone? thanks, Dave
Al Goldberg
Probably a bad batch or it was not mixed properly. That's an easy fix. Tape off the ends of the wraps. Gently sand the wraps with 600 grit paper to just dull the finish. Clean with alcohol and paper towels. Then tack off the area with a Tack Cloth. Remove the masking tape. Make sure you have a fresh set of finish. Carefully measure, thoroughly mix the finish and apply it to the wraps. Using a paper towel moistened with alcohol, carefully clean up each edge of the wrap to remove any excess finish that got on the blank. Gently warm the wraps with an alcohol lamp to remove any remaining bubbles. Let the rod rotate overnight to dry. Then wait at least a week to allow the finish to sufficiently cure.
