Is there anything you can do to make your rods last longer, our fishing rods I mean. Keep them out of the sun, wash after every use, saltwater fishing. Can you coat the guids with something to help protect from the salt, or is washing with a little soap and water. same with reels, can you put a coat of silicone spray to help keep them salt free? thanks for any advice. I am mainly saltwater fishing some jetty and surf and a little fly.

I wash off my rods and reels with freshwater when I get off the boat. Then later I take my rods in the shower with me and thoroughly wash them with dishwashing detergent, like Joy, and warm water. Once they are dry I wipe them down with Pledge spray furniture polish and a soft rag.

Periodically I wash them down again and use a soft toothbrush to clean around the guides. After they are dry I wax them with two coats of car wax. The wax repels the saltwater and protects the wraps from UV rays.
