Sidewinder rod

I'm doing a sidewinder rod with a 90 degree spiral. An old BT963M which seems to have a fatter than spec'd 9 tip in stock length. Anything that I should be aware off regarding grip lengths, first guide spacing, etc? Uplocking or downlocking? I'm thinking that I should be able to transition using just one guide, the first one. Lastly, are there any reel seats that don't work with sidewinders?

Triet,

Here are a few suggestions for the sidewinder rod:

Reelseat - Depending on the reel foot size, use either a Fuji 20 or 22 seat. Mounting it either up or downlocking is a matter of personal preference. I prefer mounting my seats downlocking.

Guide position and rotation - First spine the blank. The spine will be on top, "0" axis. The reelseat will be moumted 90 degrees to the spine. If you crank with your right hand the seat should be at 90 degrees, if you reel with your left hand then the seat should be mounted at 270 degrees.

Do the guide rotation with tho guides. Mount the #20 stripper at 110 degrees, the #16 at 145 degrees and the #12 180 degrees.

It should be a sweet rod.
