Blank Recommendation....

Hi Gang,

I'm toying with the idea of wrapping a new s/w popping rod. Can you help me identify a blank or two?

Here's my criteria:

-Value blank is OK - first rod.

-3 piece

-7 foot, I think

-Should be able to throw 1.5 oz handily

-Faster than normal popping rod (nice slow twitchy retrieve).

-It'll be loaded with 14 # Fireline, a 4000 series spinning reel and used primarily from the boat on stripers and such. Might be used from the beach once in a while and should throw 1 ounce a "mile".

Thanks,

There are very few 3-piece rod blanks outside of teh Fly Rod world. You might want to look into a 6'6 2-piece rod (even those are far & few between) and use a Fuji Ferruled seat for the butt grip - this would give you 3-pieces. I think for your first rod look at a straight 2-piece of a 1-piece.

Look at FW rods, St. Croix's have a lot of 2-piece rods, although I do not do this type of fishing and cannot give you a 1st hand recomendation.

Thanks Gang - Yeah - I'm looking for 3 piece spinner because it will be traveling alongside of my 4 pc 9'fly rods - that length is good for getting into your carry-on.

I'll take a look at those manufacturers....
