Extending the Butt

Rate this topic

4 posts in this topic

About 10 years or so ago I built a rod to use on the boat, it is built on a heavy Lami graphite blank and after I butchered it it is just about 10' long. This past weekend I got to see the outfit a friend uses for eeling big fish and thought this monster boat rod I have would be perfect considering the action, but the butt is too short to effectively use from the beach or jetty. What is a good way to extend the butt about 8 to 12 inches so that I can hold it between my legs and have the leverage needed for the hookset should I ever luck into a good fish?

Thanks Al, shoulda looked around b4 just posting the Q. If I were to extend the butt say 8 inches, how far should the extension go into the rod blank to work as planned. Bascially I know I can go way in and be safe, but what's the minimum recommended so as to keep weight down and not modify the action of the rod a lot.

Thanks,

Mike
