Breakaway 1265/2

I am looking at the Breakaway/Allstar 1265/2 blank for a custom rod for tossing wood plugs, bombers/swimmers, jigs etc. mostly on the beachfronts in LI and NJ. It would be a conventional paired with a 525 Mag. Anyone's opinion or experience with this blank or set-up would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand the sweet spot on these rods is around 1-1/2 to 2 oz, correct? How do they perform with lighter weights say around 7/8-1 oz. Also, will the 525 Mag "fit" the rod or is it too big.

Thanks

Thanks Al! smile.gif

7/8 to 1 OZ is the low limit on that rod. It'll throw them.

I think the 525 would be fine on that rod. I would personally choose an Abu 6500 but the 525 would be fine

How does the rod handle over 2 oz? It is rated to 3 - Can it handle 3 oz metal as well as 2 oz?

Sandcrab,

When I bought mine, I was concerned about it handling 3.. Mine will cast 3 oz over 130 yards with a 6500 abu and 14# fireline.. it is best with 2 but three oz metal is NOT a problem..

saltheart is dead on with this one (as usual)... sweet spot is 2 oz

TB,

Thanks for the info.

How does the reel perform with the Fireline? I am looking to try braid on this reel and Fireline has been the talk of the town for the ABU 6500 CS Mags...

Have you tried any others? PP? Stealth?
