Winding Check / Hosels

What is the best material to use as a winding check or hosel. I've seen some rods that have some sort of platic/rubber-ish ring at the top of the fore grip, and they usually crack and peel over time.

I finished a couple of Fluke rods that did not have a winding check, and the epoxy creeped up the end of the foregrip. Not too much, but I notice, and I'm wondering if this is normal, or did I just apply too much LS2000.

Thank you, Billy

Billy,

I do not use winding checks. If I get some finish on the edge of the foregrip I just sand it off after it dries.

Hosels are for decorative purposes. You can make them for numerous types of material such as wood, plastic and colored grip material.
