I have an old split bammbo boat rod. I was planning on lightly sanding the old finish off and appling new. What type of finish should I use. It would go on the blank as well as the Handle. Thanks, Rollcast

If you are going to hang it on the wall, I would use spar varnish to give it a warm vintage look. If you are going to use it, I suggest polyurethane (either high or semi gloss). Would also suggest using a paste paint remover, followed by a FLAT scraper to remove the old finish from the hex bamboo. Using sandpaper risks rounding the edges, not a good thing.

Good luck.
