Cork tape question

Building a spinning setup on a rain shadow blank, thought I would try to do a double layer to get a little more bulk. Under wrap looked good, the second layer, no matter what I did it shows gaps; I tried a bit mre tension, then less, either way it seems the tape underneath is flexing enough to lets gaps happen. Is there some trick to this I dunno?

Are you doing both wraps in the same direction? I always reverse the direction of the overwrap and have never hand a problem with gaps. Hope this helps.
