I had an accident and need to replace a few guides on an old fiberglass bait stick. Im actually considering replacing all of them while Im at it. Whats the easiest way to remove the guide and old flex coat w/o damaging the blank?

Cut the finish and thread from the top of the guide feet and you ought to be able to pull the guides off. The remaining finish and thread usually peels away without much touble.

I use a heat gun and get the flex coat hot. I then take a single edge razor blade and slice through it. I always slice away from ymy body and hands Big Dave

I am in the process of doing the same thing. I got the guides off no problem but I would like to keep some of the underwrap in place (it is well done and would be a pain in the !$$ to replace). I have only removed the epoxy and thread where the guides were. Is this a pipe dream or can I wrap the new guides and kind of "feather" the new epoxy over the old? Will it look like crap?
