Epoxy, resin and paint fumes

Rate this topic

3 posts in this topic

I am concerned about a friend who makes rods and has been having some health issues from the fumes. I was wondering what the best sort of protection would be?

I have access to half mask respirators that are rated for the following: Ammonia, Chlorine Dioxide, Contiouse flow, Chlorine, Formaldehyde, Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Floride, Hydrogen sulfide, Methylamine, Organic Vapor, and Sulfur Dioxide.

Will these work?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Tom

I would advise increasing the ventilation in the area first thing. That will help a lot. Then I would wear a mask. I'm no mosk expert but i once was sensitive to the epoxy fumes and used a carbon canister /HEPA mask. It cost about $30.

Sounds like those masks would do the job.

I use 3Ms organic vapor cartridges and the set-up runs about $30-$35. Refills are I think $15.

The cartridges are only good (optimally) for a short period, so the mask (cartridge) should be stored in a zip lock bag.

I always wear a mask when working in close proximity of these compounds. I like my liver and lungs!!! smile.gif
