Mounting a reel seat

Dear all,

Where can I get information about mounting a reel seat on a spinning blank (Sage 470-3)?

I inquired the forum but seems that this topic has never been analysed in depth.

Thanks in advance.

First you determine where it needs to be on the blank. Then if it needs to be shimmed, you have to build up the blank in 1/4" wide sections. I use cloth medical tape so that the epoxy soaks through to the blank. For a standard size reel seat, I use three sections of tape, one on each end and one in the middle. For the epoxy, you don't want to use the five minute stuff, use Rod Bond or some other non-flowing epoxy(PC7). Fill in the gaps betwwen the bands of tape and cover the tape, and twist the seat on. Twisting it on keeps the epoxy from building up at the starting point and lets it stay inside the seat.
