rod tip repair

Rate this topic

While fishing this weekend, I lost the ring of my rod tip and am looking to repair it.

The rod is a penn spinnfisher, model SLS7811 7' light action. I'm looking for which tip I would buy and how to go about replacing it.

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,

Replacing the tip is a simple repair. You have two choices. You can take the rod into any of the many tackle shops that do rod building and repairs and they can usually replace the tip on-the-spot.

Or, you can do it yourself. Gently heat the tip topwith a candle or alcohol lamp while pullong on the tip with longnose pliers. The gentle heat will break the glue bond.

Let the rod tip cool and then gently sand around the tip top to remove any residual glue. Purchase a matching size tip. Attach the tip top with 5-minute epoxy glue. Mix a small batch of glue and apply a little glue to the inside of the tip top using a pin. Put on the tip top and align it with the rest of the guides. Let it dry overnight before using.
