Al & SOL

Hi. Read the archives in the search mode for over 3 hrs. Decided I want the Lami xsra1083-2 from that info. Question- Are the factory specs comparable to the quality of the blank or should I have the rod custom wrapped?

Rod is for open NJ. beach surf (and some backwater) fishing.

Reels- primary-Tica Libra 4000 w 30# Whiplash

sometimes Ahab 8 w 20# Whiplash

Lure wts

1)Bombers,Megabaits,Swimmers 5/8-1 1/2ozs

(mostly-7/8-1 1/4)

2)Jigs 3/8-2ozs (mostly 1/2-1 1/2)

3)Wood- 1-2ozs (mostly 1-1 1/2)

I would appreciate any opinions/comments. Thanks also for the wealth of info that you have provided to SOL.

Thanks Greg

This topic has been debated for many years. I and many like me feel that a custom wrapped rod from a qualified builder will be vastly superior in performance to a factory built rod. Here is a recent thread posted on this subject:

It is very important that you find a qualied builder and not someone that just wraps rods.

As Al has stated a quality builder will give you a rod that will be designed specificaly for you. Reel seat placement, grip material, guides selection, thread color all things you can not get in a factory rod. I would not worry about getting a replacement on a warranty. Any reputable/competant rod builder will work with you on the rebuild of a custom rod with the support of Lamiglas ( right Todd??)
