Al- I wanna try to add a third stripping guide to an ol' Sage 890 SP+- but I gotta get the old guides off first (they're kinda crappy to begin with, and now they're alittle green with oxidation) how do I get the old guides off w/o scratching/damaging the blank? should I just get soemone to do this for me?? the last thing I want to do is ruin this rod... (lotsa sentimental value)

Warm the old wraps with a hair dryer to soften the finish then caefully shave through th thread on the guide feet tll you can begin to unwrap the old thread. I'ts a tedious process, but as far as I know, there's no other magic tricks. Just don't try to cut in towards the blank with the razor so you don't risk any damage to the blank.

Bobber,

JAMD is right on. Just be very careful in warming the finish to soften it since you could melt the resin bond of the blank material.
