Can any of you highly knowledgeable stick builders explain to a novice about the advantage of the skeloten type reel seats over the standard fuji type. I notice alot of custom surf sticks on the beach that were built using them. Thanks

I personally like the fixed graphite reel seats but did use a taped on plate style on a Lami light surf rod for 16 years. . One advantage of the plate seast is that if you just tape it on , you can move it around easy to find where its most comfortable. Another reason people like them is because they are small and so there is less in your hand. Interestingly , being too small and not substantial enough is a reason people give for not liking them so go figure! smile.gif They are also a nice alternative when you break a reel seat. To replace a reel seat you either have to cut off the guide or use a very big one that will fit over the blank from the butt end. Its pretty easy just to replace the corktape and put on a plate seat over the cork.
