Rod tip repairs??

Rate this topic

Al, I recently had my tip on my Lamiglass repaired at a local shop. I was wondering if I needed to have the tip finished off. I was concerned that the glue alone is not strong enough. Basically the guy just heated up the busted tip, and pulled it off. He then attached the new tip with some adhesive, leaving the old wrapping alone. Is that sufficient.

Thanks , Ant

I've never had a problem with the hot melt cement coming loose if the tip guide is an exact fit. Except on occasions where the rod was left in the interior of a vehicle in hot weather. Doesn't take much heat to loosen the cement.

If the tip is a 'tweener size, you can build up the rod's tip with thread. Some builders also roughen the finish of the rod tip, feeling this gives a better grip for the cement than the rod's gel coat.
