How to mark a rod?

What's the most accepted method of marking the specs etc. on a custom rod blank. In the past I've used the "Veach Gold Riter" but by now there must be a better method, metallic pens etc.

Thanks for the help.

A great looking lable can be made using the Brother P-Touch lable machine. Different fonts, boarders, sizes, colors, ect, just apply and epoxi over it.

Extra fine point metallic markers work best for me. Mistakes can be wiped off with a Q-tip dipped in acetone.

After the ink dries, apply a couple of coats of water-based color preserver (such as Flexcoat) about an hour apart, then coat with the finish.
