IsmailG
Al, Can you recomend guide placement for a SB 136 3M, its going to be built conventional. Also what guides, and what size do you recomend? This is after cutting 4 inches from the tip, and 6 inches from the butt. Thanks [This message has been edited by IsmailG (edited 07-18-2001).]
Al Goldberg
Ismail, Looks like you will need approximately nine guides as follows: 20(1), 16(3), 12(5) plus a UST SIC tip. Place the 20# stripper about 28-30 inches from the center of the reel seat. Place the first #12 five inches from the tip. Space the remaining guides in 3/4-1 inch increments from tip to butt as follows: 5.75, 6.25, 7.0, etc. Al

IsmailG
Al, One more question, how would all that apply if I was going to build the rod as a spinner? Thanks for all your help.
Al Goldberg
Ismail, Set up for spinning: 40HH, 30H, 25H, 25M, 20M, 20M plus an SIC tip BPST20-XX. The following spacing is just a starting point. You will need to test cast it and do a stress distribution test before the final guide positions are determined. Space the 40HH 42-45 inches from the face of the reel. Space the first #20 guide 8-10 inches from the tip. Space the remaining guides in 1 inch increasing increments. Tape the guides in place and test cast with the reel and line you intend to use. Adjust the spacing of the stripper guide. When you feel that you are maximizing your casting distance, then adjust the spacing of the remaining guides. Al
